The ongoing hearing at the Pretoria High Court took a dramatic turn today after it was revealed that the late former President Edgar Lungu was admitted to hospital using multiple identity documents, none of which were Zambian.
According to court disclosures, at the time of his admission, Lungu reportedly had:
One Zimbabwean passport
Two diplomatic passports from two different countries
Two green (ordinary) passports
And was registered under different names, though referring to the same individual
The revelations caused a stir in the courtroom, prompting the judge to stand down the hearing temporarily in order to allow the Attorney General’s legal team to amend their application accordingly.
Legal experts say the use of multiple identities could complicate Zambia’s claim that Lungu was a former Head of State deserving of state burial on home soil, particularly if documentation at the time of death did not align with his official status.
More updates are expected as
the hearing resumes.
But why is it the government's fault by him having registered on multiple names or Zambian people?
