THIS SPIRIT OF CONFUSION MUST BE REJECTED IN OUR LAND

It is deeply concerning to witness the confusion surrounding the mourning arrangements for our late former President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu.

While we acknowledge the sentiments of PF Acting President Hon. Given Lubinda in declaring the Patriotic Front Secretariat as the official mourning house, we must remember that the passing of a former Head of State is a matter of national significance—transcending partisan lines and requiring national unity and order.

Traditionally and procedurally, the Secretary to the Cabinet—Mr. Patrick Kangwa—is the official responsible for guiding the nation on matters of State funerals, particularly those involving former Presidents. Unless otherwise stated by government, funerals of this nature are dignified with arrangements at official venues such as the Mulungushi International Conference Centre.

Reducing this solemn national moment to a political gathering risks dishonouring the dignity of the office President Lungu once held and undermines the unity we ought to uphold during this time of mourning.

We must reject any spirit of confusion, factionalism, and disorder. Let us honour President Lungu with the respect, coordination, and national solidarity befitting a former Head of State. This is a time for unity, not chaos.

Let the appropriate authorities lead, and let all Zambians—regardless of political affiliation—mourn with decorum, peace, and love for country.
