BREAKING: Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba Arrested for Cyber Harassment and Libel

The Zambia Police Service has officially arrested and charged Dr. Chris Zumani Zimba, 45, of Chunga Village in Chongwe District, for harassment using electronic communication and libel.


According to police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, the charges stem from two articles published by Dr. Zimba — one on his Facebook page dated May 2, 2024, and another in The Mast Newspaper on May 4, 2024. Both publications allegedly targeted and defamed Dr. Nevers Mumba.


As a result, Dr. Zimba has been charged with:


Two counts of harassment using means of electronic communication (under the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act No. 2 of 2021)


One count of libel (under Section 191 of the Penal Code Act, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia)



He has since been released on police bond and is expected to appear in court soon.


The Zambia Police has reminded the public that freedom of expression is not absolute — using digital platforms to harass or defame others is a crime and will be dealt with accordingly.
