The family of late former President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has issued a firm statement declaring that President Hakainde Hichilema should not be anywhere near the body of the late Head of State.


According to family sources, the decision stems from what they describe as a lack of reconciliation and unresolved tension between the late President Lungu and his successor prior to his death. The family insists that allowing HH near the remains would go against the wishes and dignity of the deceased.


This comes amid an ongoing court dispute between the Lungu family and the Zambian government over burial arrangements, with Esther Lungu revealing in court documents that her husband specifically wished not to be mourned by the current administration.


The issue continues to stir national debate as many call for respect of the family’s position, while others argue for the importance of national unity and protocol in honoring former leaders.
