TRAGIC ACCIDENT IN NAKONDE: 5 DEAD, 15 INJURED

Five people — including a two-year-old girl — have died, and 15 others have sustained injuries following a tragic road traffic accident in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province. The driver responsible is currently on the run.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Dennis Moola confirmed the incident, which occurred around 16:00 hours near Air Lodge along the Great North Road.
Among the deceased are:
Prisca Namfukwe (15)
Timothy Sichizya (23)
Osward Simumba (22)
An unidentified adult female
Eunice Nalungwe (2)
All victims suffered fatal body injuries. Their bodies have been deposited at the Nakonde District Hospital mortuary, awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Commissioner Moola also reported that:
12 injured victims are admitted to Nakonde District Hospital
3 others were treated as outpatients
The accident involved a Scania truck carrying unknown bags of maize. The vehicle was transporting 20 passengers, believed to be casual workers of the truck owner, who were seated atop the cargo.
Preliminary investigations point to an error of judgement by the driver, who fled the scene and remains at large.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the suspect, and the public is urged to provide any inform
ation that may aid in his capture.
