LUSAKA’S CHUNGA WOMAN ELECTROCUTED BY LOOSE ZESCO CABLE

A 34-year-old woman of Chunga Compound in Lusaka has died after being electrocuted by a loose ZESCO cable.

The deceased, identified as Dora Bwalya, met her fate on Sunday, 31st August around 12:00 hours when she stepped on a live cable that had fallen from a pole and was lying at the entrance of her yard.

According to her brother-in-law, Bruce Mapalo, Mrs. Bwalya was thrown against a perimeter wall by the electric current and sustained fatal head injuries.

Mr. Mapalo laments that the tragedy occurred despite residents having reported the loose cable to ZESCO three days earlier, with the utility allegedly assuring them that the fault had been addressed.

He has described the incident as negligence and demanded that ZESCO take responsibility by covering all funeral expenses.

Meanwhile, a ZESCO team that rushed to the area after the electrocution was reportedly chased away by angry residents, leaving behind a ladder mounted on the transformer.
