JUNE: A MONTH OF REFLECTION FOR ZAMBIA

Image
JUNE: A MONTH OF REFLECTION FOR ZAMBIA June has become a deeply emotional month for Zambia, marking the anniversaries of the passing of three former Heads of State: President Kenneth Kaunda, President Frederick Chiluba, and now, President Edgar Chagwa Lungu. The death of President Edgar Lungu on 5th June 2025 not only adds to the significance of this month, but also marks the end of an era—he was Zambia’s last surviving former President. President Kenneth Kaunda (1924–2021) On 17th June 2021, Zambia bid farewell to its founding father, Dr. Kenneth David Kaunda, who passed away at the age of 97 in Lusaka. A towering figure in Zambia’s history, President Kaunda led the nation to independence in 1964 and served as its first Republican President until 1991. His leadership helped shape Zambia’s early post-independence identity, and he is remembered for his commitment to peace, education, and African unity. President Frederick Chiluba (1943–2011) President Frederick Jacob Titus Chiluba,...

A TRIBUTE TO MY HERO AND MENTOR, HIS EXCELLENCY DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU

Image
A TRIBUTE TO MY HERO AND MENTOR, HIS EXCELLENCY DR. EDGAR CHAGWA LUNGU It is with profound sorrow and immense pain that I join the Lungu family, the Patriotic Front (PF), and the entire nation in mourning the passing of our Sixth Republican President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who died in South Africa. President Lungu was not only a national leader but also a personal friend, political mentor, and father figure. His departure comes at a time when his wisdom, humility, and guidance were needed most. I had the honour and privilege of serving closely with President Lungu during his presidency — first as Mayor of Luanshya and Chairperson of the Copperbelt Province at a tender age. My official introduction to him came through the late President Michael Chilufya Sata (MHSRIP) at Kabelenga Presidential Guest House in Ndola. President Sata, in his characteristic visionary way, said: "This young man, Nathan Chanda, has done a lot for this party. We need to do something for hi...

ACC Nabs 5 RTSA Officers for Corruption

Image
ACC Nabs 5 RTSA Officers for Corruption The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested five officers from the Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) over allegations of engaging in corrupt practices. ACC Director General Daphne Chabu revealed during a press briefing that the arrests followed thorough investigations into reports of soliciting and accepting bribes from motorists. The accused officers are alleged to have: Overlooked traffic offences Issued driver test certificates without physical inspections Granted licenses and other favours unlawfully Ms. Chabu condemned the conduct, saying such actions demonstrate a blatant disregard for public safety and the rule of law. Meanwhile, RTSA CEO Amon Mweemba confirmed that the agency is conducting its own internal investigations and stressed that any officers found guilty will be dismissed in line with public service regulations. The ACC continues to call on the public to report corrupt acts, assuring that no one is above the law...

THIS SPIRIT OF CONFUSION MUST BE REJECTED IN OUR LAND

Image
THIS SPIRIT OF CONFUSION MUST BE REJECTED IN OUR LAND It is deeply concerning to witness the confusion surrounding the mourning arrangements for our late former President, His Excellency Dr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu. While we acknowledge the sentiments of PF Acting President Hon. Given Lubinda in declaring the Patriotic Front Secretariat as the official mourning house, we must remember that the passing of a former Head of State is a matter of national significance—transcending partisan lines and requiring national unity and order. Traditionally and procedurally, the Secretary to the Cabinet—Mr. Patrick Kangwa—is the official responsible for guiding the nation on matters of State funerals, particularly those involving former Presidents. Unless otherwise stated by government, funerals of this nature are dignified with arrangements at official venues such as the Mulungushi International Conference Centre. Reducing this solemn national moment to a political gathering risks dishonouring the ...
